Kempen
A kinda different looking merchant banker
Kempen is a Dutch merchant bank with activities in the field of asset management, securities and corporate finance. In my role as UX designer at Dept I helped designing their new corporate website. The final design turned out a little bit different than you would expect from a merchant bank. It did not remain unnoticed and won several big awards for the concept & visual design.
Kempen approached Dept with the idea to build an entire new website from scratch. They challenged us to come up with a totally different concept that would set them apart from all other private banks. With the help of Kessels Kramer a whole new brand identity was created and therefore also a new website should be designed.
My role within the project was to provide the team with wireframes, structure and navigation for the website. I also conducted some user testing. The beautiful visual UI design was done by Dionne van Dijk. The website did not remain unnoticed. It won a silver Webby award, two Lovie Awards and two Silver DIA's.

Design of the structure, navigation and wireframes
For the new website of Kempen I helped the team out by creating the site structure, navigation and wireframes. We choose to keep functionalities clean and simple and let the content do the talking.
The initial work and research for the project was done by Barry Borsboom. It gave me a good understanding on where to go to with the concept. Also the input of Kessels Kramer on brand identity helped me shape the outlines for the website. We choose to position the bank as a 'haute finance boutique'. This told me the wireframes shouldn't be very traditional. I really tried to reduce the amount of text and make everything on point as possible. I also needed to create room for stunning visuals and its brand identity.
When we where working together on the new design, we soon came up with the idea to not have just static visuals, but bring them to life by creating micro animations within the visuals. With the help of Van Santen & Bolleurs Photography moving visuals where created and implemented in the concept.

Looking back
For this project I really have to give credits to the team for their to the amazing work on part of branding, visuals, photography and 3d animation. Also a terrific job was done building the website. I'm proud that my work of setting the outlines and created wireframes helped others in such ways they could focus on their tasks.
